Looking to get more familiar with the Sonoma Coast? Here are a few activities we suggest to consider if you’re heading there for some last summer/early fall fun.
Goat Rock State Beach – Located in Jenner, CA, Goat Rock State Beach offers amazing views, glimpses of seabird wildlife and trails like The Kortum Trail, situated on the bluffs just overlooking the beach. Seagrass, coastal flowers and of course ocean views provide for a peaceful and beautiful environment.
Fort Ross – High up overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Fort Ross consists of reconstructed buildings reminiscent of the once teeming colony that acted as the hub (1812-1841) of the southernmost Russian settlements dotting the west coast of North America. The lone surviving original structure, Rotchev House, was renovated in 1836. Reconstructed buildings include the stockade, chapel, barracks and two blockhouses. A museum features details surrounding the three main eras of Fort Ross, which is considered a California Historical Landmark and is also registered on the National Register of Historic Places.
Wine Tasting – An atypical AVA with unique terroir for Sonoma County, the nearly 28,000-acre Fort Ross-Seaview AVA produces incredible Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Syrahs to name a few. The five wineries in the Sonoma Coast real estate area include Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery, Hirsch Vineyards, Peay Vineyards, Flowers Vineyards & Winery and Wild Hog Vineyard.
Salt Point State Park – Located approximately four miles north of Fort Ross, Salt Point State Park offers 6,000 acres of gorgeous ocean views, a visitor’s center and one of the state’s first underwater parks. With more than 20 miles of hiking and horse trails, these waters are common for spotting abalone divers and surf fishing.
Gualala Sand Dunes – Boasting an expansive stretch of white sand beaches and dunes, Gualala Point Regional Park is ideal for family adventures and strolling beside the Gualala River as it heads toward the sea. Build sandcastles, run along the dunes, search for sea glass, collect seashells, go fishing or just kick back and relax. Excellent for whale-watching as well!
