Considered to be the largest city in the North Bay, Santa Rosa is the fifth most populated city in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Incorporated in 1867, Santa Rosa experienced steady growth and development throughout the 20th century, despite major damage caused by earthquakes. Bodies of water located in Santa Rosa include Brush Creek, Matanzas Creek, Colgan Creek, Pine Creek, Fountaingrove Lake, Lake Ralphine, and Santa Rosa Creek Reservoir. Hood Mountain is prominent to the east and Taylor and Sonoma Mountain are easily visible from most points throughout the city.
